Another safety feature, which is standard on these type of connectors, is that this socket will only accept a 16 amp 3 pin plug, no other size will fit.

The interlock switch is an extra safety feature - the power can't be switched on unless a plug is inserted in the socket, the switch can also be locked in the 'OFF' position.
